Carer at Weldon Homecare Services Ltd, Bingham, saves life of Newark customer

Carer at Weldon Homecare Services Ltd, Bingham, saves life of Newark customer

A care worker has been hailed a hero for saving the life of a customer in Newark — but she says she’s just “doing her job”.

Patrycja Hoffman is part of the care team at Weldon Homecare Services Ltd, located in Bingham, which offers a wide range of care services from daily home personal care, overnight care, and domestic services to companion visits across Newark and the surrounding areas.

On Thursday, Pat was visiting a customer at her home in Newark to help get her dressed and washed, when she said she started to feel dizzy.

“She started to fall onto the floor and I caught her, and I could see that she wasn’t breathing and her skin was grey,” Pat recalled.

Pat immediately sprang into action, telling the customer’s husband to call an ambulance and laid the customer on the floor.

The call handler then directed her to start performing CPR on the customer when it was determined that she had suffered a heart attack.

By the time the ambulance arrived, the customer was breathing again and with a pulse when she was taken to Kings Mill Hospital, much to Pat’s relief:

“All I was saying to myself [when I was performing CPR] was ‘please breathe, please breathe’ and I’m so glad she was breathing again,” Pat said.

Weldon Homecare care manager and managing director Michelle Wells had ensured that all staff were trained in first aid, including CPR, bleeding, breathing difficulties, and broken bones, something very important to her as a former paramedic and with 30 years of care experience.

“All of our staff are trained in first aid because you just never know when the need might arise,” she said, “Pat did so well.”

Weldon Homecare director Scott Gordon said that all the team were “so proud” of Patrycja:

“The paramedics report how amazing she was, that she kept very calm and said that she saved the customer’s life.”

The company held its first domiciliary care company Christmas party for carers and customers at the Roman Way pub in Newark on Thursday, just hours after Pat’s life-saving actions, with more than 50 guests attending.

Patrycja was presented with a congratulatory bottle of wine by Michelle at the party, and all of the guests gave her a big cheer and round of applause.

Despite the praise from her bosses and colleagues, Pat said that she doesn’t see herself as a hero:

“I love my job and I was just doing my job,” she said, “I just feel normal, and not special.”

Weldon Homecare Services: A Local Family Business Rooted in Care

CQC Registered

At Weldon Homecare Services, we’re more than just a business—we’re a local family with a deep commitment to giving back to our community. Our name, WELDON, is a tribute to the cherished memories of our parents, Mick and Irene Wells (WEL), and Jim & Dorothy Gordon (DON). With their love and care as our guiding light, we established WELDON Homecare Services Ltd. as a beacon of hope for those in need.

In the spirit of genuine care, we stand by your side to ensure your safety and happiness at home, every step of the way. Our goal is to provide you with a personalised service that’s designed by you, for you. From assistance with daily tasks to lending a helping hand, we’re here to support you in living life on your own terms.

We are a domiciliary care company, looking after adults aged 18 years and over, with a range of care needs, in their own homes. We operate in the healthcare sector. Our services range from medication administration, personal care, social care, housework and much more.

The demand for our services never ceases, because our founder director and registered care manager, Michelle Wells, has built two large local domiciliary care franchises for others in Newark and Sherwood during the last 3 decades. Her reputation and skills in this sector are extremely highly regarded.

Sadly, there is County wide bed blocking, people being left in their homes without adequate skilled care, leaving their families to be burdened with tasks that are often inappropriate for them or that they are not trained for or able to do, or even worse, people having to leave their homes and loved ones prematurely because of the lack of skilled domiciliary care.

Michelle Wells and our other founder director, Scott Gordon, decided to build a non-franchise company to enable the freedom to offer the best care and strive for CQC’s outstanding rating. With Michelles experience of building large companies and businesses in Newark, with over 100 employees, her desire now, is to have a family size company, with a safe family feel for all involved, offering care to those who have lost various levels of independence to keep control of the life and the standards they have always enjoyed.

This means an ambition for a maximum of 35 to 40 care workers, to ensure a tight-nit team that offers exceptional care to the local population. Michelles reputation locally, within social services, the district nurses teams and customers already within the company, means that demand for our care services is constantly strong.

With the growing need for adult care services to have a skilled workforce, we are proud that Michelle (a former paramedic who has trained staff for over 30 years) takes charge of all the specialist in-house training. She holds a City & Guilds in learning and development through demonstration. This ensures the highest standards of medication, first aid and lifesaving training, along with all equipment and moving and handling training. We are heading towards 3 years of operating and are happy to help our own community.

Weldon Homecare Services Limited were incorporated on 02 July 2021.
